Local SEO is how a homeowner in Whitby, Kanata or St. Thomas finds your company in Google without you paying for the click. It combines your Google Business Profile, your website's service and area pages, reviews and technical fixes. In Ontario, the hard part is not the tactics; it's choosing a territory you can win and serving it honestly. We plan and run the marketing. We don't do HVAC work.
What local SEO is, in Ontario terms
Short answer: it's the work that decides whether you appear in the three map listings and the first organic results for searches like "furnace repair Ajax".
Google says local results are driven mainly by relevance, distance and prominence. Distance is the one you can't fake. A company based in Mississauga won't usually show for a searcher standing in Newmarket, however good its pages are. That's why Ontario local SEO starts with a map: where your shop or staffed locations are, how far your crews actually drive, and which nearby towns have the volume to be worth a page.
Relevance comes from your categories, services and pages. Prominence comes from reviews, links and how well known your business is offline. Ontario's dense south rewards prominence heavily, because so many companies sit close together.
Who it's for
Short answer: any Ontario HVAC company with at least one real, staffed location and the capacity to answer more calls.
- Established shops in the GTA, Hamilton or Ottawa that appear in the map results for their home town but vanish one town over.
- Growing companies in Waterloo Region, London or Niagara that want to own a corridor of towns before competitors do.
- Northern companies where search volume is thin but a strong profile can capture almost all of it.
It's a poor fit if you can't answer the phone when it rings. Local SEO creates calls at unpredictable times, and missed calls in January go to the next listing.
What's included
Short answer: profile, pages, reviews, technical health and monthly reporting.
- Google Business Profile. Correct categories, services, service areas, hours, photos of real work and regular posts, kept within Google's guidelines.
- Service pages. One page per money job: furnace replacement, boiler service, heat pump installation, air conditioning, water heaters, indoor air quality. Each explains the job the way an Ontario homeowner would ask about it.
- Area pages with substance. Pages only for towns you genuinely serve, with specifics: typical housing, the equipment you see, how quickly you can arrive.
- Review flow. A simple, honest routine for asking every satisfied customer for a review, and replies to every review, good or bad.
- Technical fixes. Speed, mobile layout, crawl errors, structured data that matches the page.
- Citations. Consistent name, phone and address across the directories that matter.
Timeline
Short answer: groundwork in month one, early movement by month three, steady gains through month twelve.
| Period | What happens |
|---|---|
| Weeks 1–4 | Audit, territory map, profile clean-up, technical fixes |
| Months 2–3 | Service pages, first area pages, review routine in place |
| Months 4–6 | More area pages where volume justifies them, link outreach |
| Months 7–12 | Refinement by what's producing booked jobs |
Roma Heating & Cooling grew organic traffic 400% in 12 months, which is about the timescale SEO needs to prove itself.
How results are measured
Short answer: calls and booked jobs by town, not keyword positions alone.
We track calls from your profile, calls and texts from the website, and the towns they came from. With your job data, we report cost per booked job for SEO alongside your ads. Rankings are a leading signal; booked jobs are the result. You'll see both every month.
Mistakes we see Ontario companies make
Short answer: claiming too much territory, faking locations and copying town pages.
- Listing every town from Oakville to Oshawa. A long service-area list doesn't widen your reach; it dilutes your pages.
- Virtual offices. A Business Profile at an address with no staff breaks Google's rules and gets suspended, often in peak season.
- Copy-paste area pages. "Best furnace repair in [town]" repeated forty times is the pattern Google's spam policies call doorway pages.
- Ignoring reviews in winter. January is when you serve the most customers, so it's when your review count should grow fastest.
Local SEO is part of every plan on our pricing page. It pairs well with seasonal Google Ads while rankings build. For the territory question, see our guide to choosing your Ontario service area, and check the region notes on the areas page.
Frequently asked questions
Should we make a page for every town in our region?
Only for towns you genuinely serve and can say something specific about, such as response times, the housing you see there or common equipment. Pages that just swap the town name are treated as doorway pages by Google and can drag the whole site down.
We have two shops, one in Oshawa and one in Peterborough. Do we need two Business Profiles?
If both are staffed locations that serve customers, each can have its own profile under Google's guidelines. A profile for a location that isn't real breaks those guidelines and risks suspension.
How long before local SEO shows results?
Less competitive towns can move within a few months. Busy GTA suburbs usually take six to twelve months of steady work. We'll tell you which is which for your territory at the start.
Do reviews really affect rankings?
Google lists prominence, which includes reviews, as one of the factors in local results. More important for you, reviews decide who gets the call once the homeowner sees three companies side by side.
